Dangerous Dan's Debut!
The stage was set for Dan's Queensbury Boxing League debut at The Effingham Park Hotel in Surrey last Saturday 18th June 2011.
Dan Lawrence was up against a more experienced opponent in Brendan Cookman from Bournemouth, but this didn’t stop him delivering a second round knockout blow to his rival.
Lawrence followed a vigorous training regime led under former British super bantamweight champion Matt Marsh in preparation for the fight and after months of training six days a week, he looked and felt fit and ready to take on Cookman.
It was Lawrence’s first fight for Matt Marsh Promotions and he made the first round look easy, working Cookman to the body and head.
About a minute into the second round, Lawrence got Cookman on the ropes and delivered a combination of body shots followed by a powerful right hook to the head, which knocked his opponent to the canvas.
This is the first time Lawrence has knocked out an opponent and also the first time Cookman has been knocked out. Lawrence said: “I trained hard for this fight.
“Matt has been there with me every step of the way and I can’t fault him as a trainer.
“I enjoy the training sessions and I am looking forward to the next fight.”
Lawrence is now working towards his next fight at Epsom racecourse on September 17, where he takes on champion Marlon Stewart for the Queensbury British light middleweight title.
Manager Marsh said “I am looking forward to working with other fighters and they will hopefully do as well as Dan did tonight.”
